[2] 16 - Battery

Battery is a criminal offence involving unlawful physical contact, distinct from assault which is attempting to harm someone.

Battery generally requires that:

1. an offensive touch or contact (including through bodily fluid, such as spitting) is made upon the victim, instigated by the actor; and

2. the actor intends or knows that their action will cause the offensive touching.

Enhancement

If the victim or target of this crime is a Law Enforcement Officer, the maximum jail/prison sentence is double the above listed amount.
