Rapids training

  • Demonstrate in an Interceptor.

  • Mention dangers such as white water and the waterfall.

  • Enforce the point that under no circumstances can you go over the waterfall as it will kill them and likely end in disciplinary action.

  • Have each trainee go down one at a time. Can have more than one going down at a time as long as a trainer/assistant is with them.

  • Next, have them spawn in a patrol boat and have them drive up next to the waterfall and hold for 10 seconds without use of an anchor or beaching it. Then they must leave the area without going off the waterfall.

  • Each trainee gets two attempts at the rapids run and as many attempts as needed for waterfall hold - on trainer discretion.

Trainees may pass basic PA training if they fail the rapids portion. However they may not enter any yellow zones on the map if they fail this.

Dives should not exceed 200 ft, buddy system when in a large body of water or any dive if enough units can activate, always pause in regular intervals while surfacing (don't get the bends) more information on the bends is available here https://www.emedicinehealth.com/decompression_syndromes_the_bends/symptom.htm

  • Trainees must be reminded that failure to follow safe driving practices is grounds for immediate revocation of dive certification pending retrain (Diving is dangerous we must be safe)

  • Dive Team is to communicate in a Tac-Channel to not interfere with regular RTO it is the job of the Radio Officer to relay any pertinent information to dispatch or other units as needed
